Price Forecasting in the Age of Geopolitics, AI & Climate Extremes: How Reliable Are We?

Featuring: ADM Investment Service | Wageningen University & other leading forecasting institutions

Forecast Focus:

- How price forecasting has changed: from “balance-sheet only” to data-rich, scenario-based forecasting (weather + geopolitics + flows).

- Geopolitics in the model: how shocks (sanctions, corridor disruptions, trade policy) now drive risk premia and volatility alongside fundamentals.

- AI usefulness (and limits): where ML helps (pattern detection, real-time signals) and where it fails (regime shifts, rare events); how AI is combined with crop/market models

- Weather forecast reliability: what is realistically predictable at 7–10 days vs 30–90+ days, and how ensembles/seasonal systems are used to express uncertainty.

- Climate extremes & market overreaction: do markets (and algos) overprice weather headlines vs probabilistic outlooks?

- Seasonal outlook to end of 2026 vegetation cycle - drought/heat stress probability, rainfall distribution, and “what matters most” windows for wheat/corn/oilseeds.
